Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] wire and acrylic/ viewport ring
Yeh,
I originally was interested in a acrylic dome for the obvious reasons that they offer such good visibility but for a really strong one I think it should be cast - but I can't afford that ! The other thing about having an acrylic dome is that if you have one, it should really be protected by another outer dome in case you bump into something. I know a number of subs do not have a protective outer dome, that decision may be related to how and where you're going to operate the sub. And another factor is what depth you are designing for. Anyway my concept, and it may already have been done, is to have an acrylic doughnut , that way all you have to do is polish the inside and outside of a 4" thick piece of acrylic and you have what is essentially a acrylic gasket which in my case is 4" thick. You would need to anneal the acrylic before and after I believe ( still don't have that book!)
I posted a drawing on the moki-ex: http://www.prismnet.com/~moki/20050226.002408/AcrylicXDounut.jpg
