Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Battery/motor pressurization

Hi Vance.

I had spoken to Kent Markham (of Markham submarines and plans fame), who had sold me my minnkota motor and sent me two different sets of plans for his subs when he sent me my motor.
I had asked him about the possibility of a spark from the solenoid igniting hydrogen in the battery pod. He told me to just make sure and use a closed solenoid that would not allow an exposed spark.
I plan on having my waterproof toggle switch on the dash of the sub to actuate the motor. I will seal the front of the toggle with a waterproof toggle cover and the rear of the switch I will goop real good with
silicone. The low voltage wire going from this toggle will go to a solenoid which when I flip the switch, will cause the solenoid to send the battery voltage to the motor. That's my plan so far anyway.

From your comment below, I am wondering if you think there might be a better way place to locate the solenoid than in the battery pod. Do you think the closed solenoid would not be safe in the battery pod for
some reason? If the solenoid is closed, how could it create a problem? If not located in the pod, since I am in a wetsub, where could it be located?

Kindest Regards,
Bill Akins.

Bill,

Solenoid? In the pod? Hmm.
