Dear Psubbers
I am biologist and interested in submarines.  I am one
of the lurkers of the list.
For those interested in the history of submarines
there is a nice book about one of the most advanced
and forgotten submarines of the 19 century the
Ictineo.
The book is "Moturiols dream the submarine inventor
who wnated to save the world" from Matthew Stewart.
The Ictineos (there were two of them) were build
between 1858 and 1964.  They were of wood and
descended to 30 m.  They had air purifiers and stayed
many hours underwater.  The second Ictineo was very
amaizing with steam engine powered by chemical reactor
that produces oxigen, Hydrogen lights and double hull.
 
The book of Monturiol The art of underwater navigation
from 1891 is still very informative.  It is in spanish
and that is why it is not very known.
I believe this submarine will be very interesting for
every body who wants to build a sub of wood.
