Dr. Eugene Mallove was brutally beaten and died today.

Dr. Mallove was not in the field of submarines or Oceanography. But, a
few
of you who have been following alternate energy may know of his work.
He
was
a nuclear physicist and publisher of "Infinite Energy" magazine here in
the
US.  He was one of the proponents of cold fusion and cold fusion
research.

He is the author of "The Starflight Handbook: The Pioneer's Guide to
Interstellar Travel "
a book that introduced me to Dr. Mallove and is work.

Cold fusion has been a subject of much controversy.  It is in its very
infancy and
thus far a device has not been made that produces energy to serve in a
broad
and useful way.  However, flight, space flight, and deep diving
submersibles
were inconceiveable at one time, too.  I could imagine and envision some
time
in the future that a pSubber will one day install a device that will
extend the
range of his submersible to traverse the seas far and wide.  Pipe dream?
Maybe.

I did not know the man personally nor have I ever met him.  But he is
known
as a courageous pioneer in energy research and this is a sad day.
