RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] hatch rings

Monel is a nickel alloy and it is usually bonded by hot dipping on the
molten metal, like zink, or it can be electroplated. It is a quite noble
material and it will not corrode at all, however, care must be taken to
protect the sealing surfaces from dirt or foreign matter before closing the
hatch as it will dent the material. This is something that is quite easy to
do by doing a proper maintenance and designing hatch rings to cover the
sealing surface when not in use (if the hatch is to remain open).
