Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] hatch material

Greg,   On an ambient design , assuming that your hatch is on top, you would need to have a good seal or you would start leaking out air and water would start rising from the bottom.  If you had two hatches, one on the bottom and one on the top, you would have to be careful to close your bottom hatch if you were on the surface with the top hatch open.  Have you decided how you are going to seal/paint the steel parts of your sub?  It seams to me that one would not want to paint the hatch ring.  Is there an oil that could be periodically applied to the hatch ring to keep the rust at bay?

I too have a question about a seal.  In regards to an ambient design, does one use a gasket (rubber / weatherstripping, etc) to maintain a seal?

Thanks-

Greg

Hi All,   I'm in the middle of a hatch design and I'm not clear on whether or not the hatch rings (where the hatch seals to the boat) needs to be stainless steel or not?  Could someone enlighten me on this.  Thanks
