Just the test I needed, thanks. Unfortunately, the result was just what I did not need! It's definitely acid, so I have leaky batteries. This is going to be a royal pain. I'm going to contact the manufacturer to make absolutely sure these things can be left upside down while charging. I think there are two possibilities here: 1) I damaged them and split the case. In that case I'll modify the hold-downs to spread the pressure more evenly. 2) It's conceivable charging upside down is letting some acid out of the overpressure valves. That would be even worse, because if the batteries can't be upside down as previously thought, I'm going to have to move them and it's going to affect the boat's center of gravity. So this is either bad or extra bad. To be continued...
