I'm guessing there are more amateur 1-atm without life support than with.
And if the materials are cheap and easily obtainable, recharging the unit
upon surfacing from a dive shouldn't be much of an issue.  Your suggestion
is no less valid than watching sofnolime turn color to indicate it cannot
absorb any more CO2.  If nothing else it would be a good experiment.  If
it turns out positive I hope you will consider submitting a paper to the
2004 PSUBS convention, or attend and give a talk on your results.
