I have been thinking about this viewport / hatch business and how I am planning to approach the whole thing. What I may try to do is to build my viewport/hatch on a cylinder of approximatly 20" in diameter by 12" in length and then seal both ends, one end would be a simple hatch and the other would be my eventual viewport. Then I could take the whole thing out on the boat and drop it down to a desired depth. I could then test different hatch designs and see what works! If anybody wanted to test thier hatch I could test it for them as long as the seals matched up or an adapter was made to fit.

The thickest acrylic I have here is a small amount from a sheet of 5/8 inch stuff. Most of my acrylic applications have no great stresses placed on them such as submarine considerations. If anyone is interested and can come up with some legitimate testing ideas, I offer to help. I can, on a small scale and in my off-work hours, do some testing on acrylic materials. I have no idea where to begin if there is any interes!
