[PSUBS-MAILIST] US Army Corps of Engineers

Greetings all: For anyone interested, I thought I would pass this along. The US Army Corps of Engineers, Memphis Tennessee District is seeking information on historic steamboat wreck sites that may be in or near the Mississippi River, from Cairo Illinois downstream to the mouth of the White River, Arkansas. To quote their office: "As part of our ongoing environmental stewardship and navigation maintenance missions, the District hopes to better identify such sites". "Once information from public and private is collected, the District will produce a report on shipwreck event localities. The report will list general locations where vessels were reported lost and where physical materials might still exist. Publication of the report is scheduled for the fall of 2004." Anyone with information on shipwreck sites or documentary information(such as from family records)about steamboat losses and steamboat history in general along this portion of the river, is asked to contact Erwin Roemer at 901-544-0704,toll free at 1-800-317-4156,extension 1-0704 or E-Mail at: Erwin.J.Roemer@usace.army.mil

Im not with the CE but thought this might be interesting. I'd sure like to have a copy of the Fall 2004 report when it comes out. Best regards- Mark
