Thats correct - the stress in the weld and how to make this 
weld is the most problem on this configuration. 

On http://www.euronaut.org/daten.htm at picture one and three you 
can see a inverted endcap - the bulkhead to the diverchamber. 
With a open diver lookout hatch the pressure hull ended here. 

Also visible with a closer look the solution I found.. for the weld 
and also to use the space. (Usefull translation Dieseltank = Fuel Tank)
