Re: Escape drills? [was: Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Steinke Hoods]



My only worry is that the wrong kind of mistake could prove fatal.  If one is going to conduct practice drills they should make sure that stand by divers are present with spare air in the event of a mishap.  I seem to remember the Russians were conducting a test when Cherinobla happened !  One of the biggest problems I see with emergency exit at depth is shock of very cold water and you might break an ear drum from the pressure.  It probably would be a good idea to wear a wetsuit and have it unzipped or something just in case you had to make an emergency exit.  Also you might be safer just staying in your sub as long as you have communication to the surface and wait for rescue.
