Hi Ian,
I explored them some years ago, but unfortunately found that bow
thrusters have very short duty cycles. They are designed for very
intermittent use.

Interesting site.
One thing that got my attention was the electric bow thrusters.
I wonder how hard it would be to fill one with oil to pressure
compensate it. At around $1000 each for the low end version
(the 2HP/250N/~50lb version), I'm not sure if it would make the
best econimic sense.
It also has some nice info on hooking up a bow thrust (wiring
diagrams, positioning, etc..).
