Huh. My Atwood bilge pumps (about same cost) keep burning up, when used 
as pond pumps. Near as I can tell, water leaks past the shaft seal. 
This may, of course, have something to do with running them 
continuously -- the failures seem to happen after it's been running a 
long time, and the power is interrupted with the pump still submerged.

Or maybe your brand is more rugged. I think I'll seek some out.

Cool idea, by the way! It's a little submarine, made of stuff you can 
get at the hardware store. Things with PVC frames are right up my alley!
