Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Re: life support system designs and forced air co2 scrubb...

Lee,

Normally one has several canisters that can be interchanged on the scrubber as they become used up.  I don't know about sodasorb but SofnoLime has a shelf life of three years if it's kept dry, so the canisters have to be sealed from moisture in storage.

I only plan to use a scrubber for emergencies.  The designer of the K-350 recommends that it be surfaced every hour and the hatch opened to exchange the air.  If that is done, there is no need for CO2 scrubbing or supplemental O2.

When you do use a scrubber and supplemental O2 properly, you don't have any change in cabin pressure.  The O2 that you release is breathed in and converted to CO2 and then absorbed in the scrubber.  Done properly, you can gauge the need for scrubbing or O2 replenishment with a barometer.  If your cabin pressure goes up, your letting in to much O2.  If it goes down, your over scrubbed.  Over scrubbing has no ill effect but to much O2 can be dangerous.

You'll find many discussions about this in the archives.

Hope this helps,  Dan H.

hello and again thanx for the info.
is their a way that the co2 absorbent be charged coz if over three days ill need 50 lbs of sodasorb then that means in a average dive of 3 hrs i wold stiill need alot. also how long could i stay submerged b4 i would need to surface to releive cabin pressure due to 02 being bled in wen the sensor says cabin needs more o2.. thanx lee
