Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Cable Tapping

Hi Folks

Nice article on eavesdropping Steven there seems to be no end to the
lengths that we people will go to spy on each other, I would be
interested to know how they are going to splice into fibre optic cable
or maybe they still do it the old way, crack open an amplifier and comb
out the voice and data the are looking for, they are refining fibre
technology so that in the near future unbroken cable lengths to any
destination should be possible.
Any sub history buffs out there know anything about the German cable
tapping operations in the Atlantic, they apparently tapped into a UK to
USA cable and intercepted diplomatic and military conversations over an
encrypted line it took several months to work out the method of
encryption, the whole project was controlled by the German Head
Postmaster who was a technical wizard. I will post the battery specs
for the OSS soon and I am now of to ebay to look for some Cisco and HP
fibre gear just to see if it will fit in a psub.

Regards, Garry
