Sources for sonar on the web: www.simrad.ca . For psub or ROV check out the 1071 mini-head and MS 1000 processor that operates on a notebook or PC. Typically you would need 1) Sonar head (mini 1071 is about a foot tall); 2) connecting cable; 3) power supply to operate head; 4) processor to receive and interpret sonar singal. The MS 1000 processor that runs on a notebook computer is essentially "shareware". The cost is for the dongle that allows the head to talk to the processor.

Are there Passive and Active sonar for sale that could fit into our subs ? Any links or sites worth mentioning ?

Wow, I can finally add value. Passive sonar (simply put) is listing to
the sounds around you without doing any noise making of your own.
Active sonar is generating a sound then listening to the echo from
objects near you. Active sonar is what you get in the movies. That
"ping" noise. The active sonar I was used to (x-navy here) does not
usually sound like the classic "ping".
