Actually it would be projected on the inside of the hull or an eye piece, or
helmet. So it would be more like virtual reality, only some what real
time. There was something I saw a few years ago where experiments were
being conducted for blind people to use a sonar device of some type in
conjunction with a small computer to generate an image that was picked up by
the optic nerve. I don't know how far it got but that would be a good
basis to start from.
