RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] OSS Scrubber Systems

Just to elaborate, I used two computer cooling type fans about 4" square and an inch deep. They are nice and quiet, have low power consumption, and an expected service life of 20,000 hours. However, the resistance of the scrubber material is considerable and I'm not sure they actually get enough air through it. I can feel it coming out the other side, but just barely. A sealed-in test is pending, and I'll do it once I have an airtight hull and CO2 sensors, but my seat of the pants impression is the computer fans are on the weak side.

There's one more consideration. The scrubber material generates a lot of humidity, and in my sucker-blower design the humid air goes through the motors. The fans literally get dripping wet. So what I'm thinking is a bilge blower motor might be designed to be explosion-proof, and hence watertight and less likely to have a problem with all that humidity.
