RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] OSS Scrubber Systems (fan)

hmm that's a good question.

I think I'd like a low decibel fan that runs all the time. Not so loud as
to be annoying but if it stops or say the bearings start to go out maybe the
change in noise level would be noticed.

By the way as you all conceder what fan to use ...here is a thought ... The
fans that run on my computer are quiet and cheap (less than $5.00) I had
one go bad after about 3 years of continual use (I never turn off the
computer). I know that some might object to the voltage that they run on
but I would think that there would be other electronics that will require
the same voltage.

As to the second question, you will need a scrubber just to have any dive
time. A person can easily survive on less oxygen in the air (think about
flying in a small plane at 12,000 feet or climbing a mountain - not
Everest-)

*** what a person can't live on is a small increase in the percentage of
carbon dioxide that we breath in.***

Air entering the lungs contains about 0.04% carbon dioxide.
Air leaving the lungs contains about 4.4% carbon dioxide.

Prolonged exposure to levels above 0.5% or 5000 ppm is regarded as
potentially dangerous to human health, especially if accompanied by reduced
oxygen levels.

At 1.5% or 15,000 ppm people can suffer symptoms within an hour or two.

At 30,000 ppm or 3% and up, people can suffer serious symptoms, including
nausea, dizziness, mental depression, shaking, visual disturbances and
vomiting. If exposure persists, people may pass out, and if levels continue
to increase, they may die.

If this sound scary ...it should. I think that a scrubber is not only
required but should be designed with a back-up system of some kind
