Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] OSS Pressure Hull

Warren, I'm interested in designing the basic pressure-hull, but
because I'm never built a pressure-hull before and I don't have
a copy of the PVOH AMSE standard, I don't want to design the actual
metal, I'd prefer that's done by somebody with experience.

I will:

 * base the design around the human posture shown here:
     http://www.psubs.org/pic/humaneng.html

 * Solicit the information require to complete the design
   from the the mailing list.

 * design the geometery, layout and calculate the dimentions.

 * try to keep it simple and realistic.

 * make a guestimate of the metal thickness and ribs.

This should be enough to design all the other parts. So the
final pressure-hull metal can be calculate/designed last.
Maybe there is enough weight left at the end to design the hull
without any framing and still be possible to tow without a
monster truck.

Ian.

As I completed components I would weigh them (in one case going so far as to weigh them submerged in a tub of water) and recalculate the hull. At least in my design, weight is the absolutely critical factor. I have a fudge factor of only a few hundred pounds in a boat that weighs 3,000.
