Maybe we need three awards:

The Kittredge Award: for designing or building excellence
in small submarines

The Busby Award: for excellence in technical writing on
small submarines

The Beach Award: for non-technical writing that promotes 
submarines in general.

Most of here got started in this activity either through Beach's
"Run Silent, Run Deep" or Verne's classic.    There really are
pivotal works of fiction, and we're living proof of that.
