Couldn't you just use a standard brass plumbing ball valve? How big does
the exhaust opening have to be? Most water cooled marine exhaust outlets
shouldn't get very hot, as long as they're a reasonable distance from
the exhaust manifold. We have home made rubber flappers in our exhausts
which haven't melted yet. I tried getting a ball valve large enough to
use for our dolphin's air intake (about 2" in diameter) but shyed away
from them due to their price, bulkiness, and stiff movement. Also
getting a solenoid to open and close it got too complicated. One really
great slide valve we came across and use for our valve between engine
compartment and cockpit is a 3" diameter valve from an R. V. toilet.
Cheap, airtight and watertight but I imagine you plan to dive below
toilet water depth!
