DOER was Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Delurking

Hi Jeff,

Yeah, I umm caught that message a bit late. That week I was in the
middle of designing a DH system that we uhh "set an aggressive schedule
on". My apologies on not having caught it. Currently we only have a
full size model of the deep worker in the shop.

If we end up with a sub in the shop again I'll let you know. If you're
in the neighborhood you can drop by and have a tour of the shop. I'll
probably be in texas next week but someone will be around.

As far as what we have an what we do:

There's a surface fresh water test tank and an in ground 14' deep test
tank up at the Skyline location (it's kidney shaped and heated I hear
:). In the six months I've been there I've never seen either of them
used. We don't have a pressure test pot since large pressure vessels
are a big regulatory pain (along with being dangerous). We do have an
Ennerpak hydraulic pump with an accurate gauge that we use for
calibrating depth transmitters.

We have a full machine shop, a pretty full welding shop, and a really
good foam shop. We also have a reasonably good electronics lab. All
this with only 6 people.

We build, repair, lease, sell, operate, modify, and sometimes even
design pretty much everything relating to Remotely Operated Vehicles.
We also operate Nuytco manned submersibles when someone finds funding
for a project. At this time a lot of the items we do still relate
closely to the DOE Phantom ROV (an impressive vehicle considering the
level of technology in the early 1990s when they were designed).

Basically clients come up with things they would like to do and we take
off the shelf items along with some custom built parts and put together
a solution. We've been doing a lot of Fiber-Optic camera systems
lately.

DOER is not affiliated in any way with Deep Ocean Engineering in it's
current incarnation. The DOE name was one of the assets sold when DOE
last went out of business.

On the topic of supplying parts to psubers:

I'll have to check with our president to be sure but we are in the
business of selling new and used components and systems for underwater
vehicles. We are a SubConn (underwater whips and bulkheads) dealer and
have a pretty good inventory. We also do custom electrical whips and
sell potting compound and molds.

It's not uncommon for us to do orders of one to five pieces. Many of
our clients are small and mid size diving companies that own an ROV or
two.

I don't have visibility on pricing for any of the stuff we do so I
can't help anyone out there.

I hope that answers most of your questions.

mike
