can't afford? they weigh for *free* when you bring them junk. they weigh
the vehicle going in and then coming out to determine how much to pay you
for the scrap. you could load your trailer with the sub and a *known*
(several hundred pounds to make it fair to the junk dealer--maybe an old
engine block you've already weighed) scrap weight. Then they'll weigh going
in with the sub and junk and then leave the junk and weigh again coming out
and subtract the weight of the junk, vehicle and trailer (if you don't know
the trailer/vehicle weight, you'll have to repeat this scenario to
determine that value as well-- must be same driver). So . . . you can get
*payed* to weigh it!
If you don't have a way to weigh the scrap beforehand, then just *buy* some
scrap from them using the same scheme, go home and unload the sub and then
go back and sell the same scrap back to them. They'll make money because
they buy wholesale and sell retail. Ask the prices beforehand to see what
it'll cost you. Not much-- here it's bought for .05/lb and sold at .20/lb.
Anyway, they do this all the time for very little junk value, so I can't
believe they would not weigh your trailer/vehicle and then the same loaded
with the sub for very little cost, like . . . $5.
