Re: Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Electric Motors

Guys,

The Minn Kota 4HP series has been around a long time.  4HP is the motor's  model name, not a horsepower rating.  Darn misleading of them, In my opinion.   (What did they say the justification was?  Lemme see....been 10+ years since I talked to a factory tech about this, but I seem to recall they were claiming it put out "as much thrust as" a 4 hosepower gasoline outboard?  Hmmm.....if that's what they were saying, that claim could be debatable, too.)

But yeah, they're 65# thrust and 24 VDC.  That's the motor we first ran in the NAUTILUS.   Custom setup.  I made the extended leads (from the batteries to the controller and then back out to the motor) too long and too thin; never did get full thrust out of it.  My bad.  A pretty good motor if set up properly, though.

The motor is rated at 65 lbs of thrust and uses a variable speed motor so amp draw varies from 0 to  38 amps at 24 VDC.

Check with your motor specs, but for 4HP at 24 volts, the motor would drain 120 Amps !
remember power at the screw can not be  more than electric power at the input.
Minn kota is always misleading with the power of their engine
"puissance restituee < puissance consommee", i d ont know fow to say that in english
