T beams, with the thin end against the hull plating. This is the most
efficient form and the only one really worth considering. Its because it
offers much greater moment of inertia than the other sections.

An interesting wrinkle on this is that mathematically its the same whether
you put the supports on the inside or outside, so long as its the thin end
in contact with the plating either way. This is counter-intuitive but
demonstrable. Personally I prefer the more intuitive "inside" option because
it makes the welds less critical. The assumption of the outside approach is
really good welds.

I was wondering what kind of frame material are they referring to?

I-Beams or T-Beams? L-Beams?
