RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] pressure hull sizing

I would suggest a pressure check valve that would automatically equilize the pressure after you reach 33 ft. A simple check valuve should work. If the sub has a internal pressure of 1atm, The check valve will not work until extenal pressure is lower than 1atm. below 33 ft you will need an air compressor to keep the internal pressure at 1atm and exchange the spent air for fresh. you would also need a CO2 scrubber and a CO2/O2 monitor.

a pressure valve would only bring the cabin pressure down to the same as ambient pressure (assuming it is vented to the outside of the sub) and for every 33' of depth, ambient pressure increases by 1atm.

why dont you use a pressure valve?

I don't know what to do with the excess pressure. Perhaps a pump to equalize the pressure by pumping some air into a different tank outside the hull? This could be set to the same rate as the o2 bleed, and therefore keep the pressure at 1 atm....Carl, about the co2, you could just simply add in a scrubbing system to get rid of that.
