It's not trivial at all.
A 1-atm sub contains air at the pressure of the atmosphere when you close the
hatch to dive.
It remains at that pressure no matter how deep you dive. (As long as you don't
exceed the burst pressure of the sub that is.)
It has to be built strong and you can only leave the sub while surfaced unless
it's equipped with a lock out chamber. That's basically, a second room.
An ambient pressure sub is just like SCUBA diving. The pressure in the sub
increases as you dive and decreases as you come back up. An ambient sub can be
built lighter and cheaper and his the advantage of allowing you to exit while
submerged but all SCUBA diving restrictions apply.
