I can see this in an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie. Arnie is being
chased in the towboat, a river patrol boat filled with angry bad
guys blazing away at him. He knows they're going to catch up with
him unless he does something NOW.
The bridge comes up and he turns the towboat; the baddies grin
with the sure knowledge that they have him. The towboat is
swept under the bridge. The bad guys laugh, knowing he's dead.
The towboat slips under, pops up on the other side, and staggers
upright and back on course. When the boat is pointed in the
right direction, Arnie turns to the leading lady and says
brightly, "I saw that on the Internet."
It would not have been as much fun with a real sub. And it
does bring to mind a question about the Bionic Dolphin: how
long with the engine run with no air? Is the engine shut
down or is the load taken off when the boat submerges?
I bet that towboat was overhauled soon after that event.
If anyone admitted doing it.

I can totally imagine the skipper pulling an "I meant to do that"
afterward, pulse pounding in his ears, astonished that the universe let
him get away with that. Can you imagine the next day? Trying to tell
yourself that it really happened? Holy crap! Those tugs are BIG. And
HEAVY.
