What kind of designer are you?  What is industrial design?  

Probably the second thing you should do is to have a look at
the PSUBS website to see if there are any subs there that are
approximately what you have in mind.  You've already done the
first: announce yourself to the list and solicit ideas.  You
may find that somone else is headed in the same direction.

Have you done a patent search?  In the 60s, there were
patented several devices that may be what you are planning.
