RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] o-ring hull penetrations
Hi Alec!
Yup, we weld the 516/70 to stainless - all the through-hulls are SS
- 8" penetrator plate rings (2) drop weight (1) Hull release (1) dome
latches (2) massive 26" ID X 34" OD X 3" thick entry hatch/vision dome
sealing ring - and on some (dual) models , an addition set of leg tube/hull
flange rings - all stainless. It cuts the maintainence by a huge amount!
Sure, we did a fair bit of work in HY80 and HY 100 years ago - for
the size of the DeepWorker hull/sphere, it was not worth the extra cost of
forming, welding, machining, certification problems, etc. Mild steel gets
us to 2 thou with no effort and no suprises. We've also done a fair bit
with Titanium - we have several DeepWorkers with T1 battery pods, for
example. When we move the DeepWorkers to 3000 feet and beyond, it will
probably be with T1. I also have a nice 'Ocean Everest' design in T1 and
glass hemis!!
