Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] catamarn
Hello Vance,
I never received your query about the Liftraft, sorry.
However, I am sure all of you experienced some difficulties in launching and
transporting your subs on the water. Well me too this is why I built a
Catamaran submersible barge , to launch and transport on the water my subs.
The Catamaran keeps the sub above the water on a mid platform, then you
partially submerge the catamaran to release the sub or whatever is on the
mid platform. The catamaran is designed to submerge at nearly 90% of its
volume, and is stable at all time during the descent.
To retrieve the sub, you just slide in between the 2 hulls your sub , then
blow the ballast to raise the Liftraft . It works with scuba tanks.
You can launch the catamaran with a sub on it from any boat ramp. You need
between 2 or 3 Ft of clearance, there is a extendable tongue on the trailer
because I don t like to wet the tires of my 4x4 when I take it to a ramp.
I build Lifrats from 1,200 Lbs to 5,000Lbs load., Draft is only 1 Foot.
lengh is 24 Ft for the 5,000Lbs capacity. Beam is 8 Ft with the mid platform
width at 5 Ft.
There is no crane on the catamaran at the most a davit could be installed
for small loads.
The catamaran is interesting for other applications, scuba diving platform,
retreiving of floating objects or small wrecks.
The Catamaran has to be towed, I am working on a mean of propulsion for it.
Other advantage, when you towe your sub for long transits, the sub being
above the water it stays clean, otherwise with direct towe you know that
the hull gets dirty by oil or other residuts if you use a tow boat powered
by a 2 strokes engine. Let me know if you need more info.
Regards
Herve
