Without Phil (and other experienced submariners) freely disseminating their
hard-earned knowledge here,  the information network at PSUBS would be
comprised of people who have never built a submarine in their lives; in
which case you might either be in the library, trying to figure it all out
on your own; or taking a dirt nap because you overlooked some non-obvious
(but nonetheless lethal) aspect of submersible design, construction, or
operation.
