Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Busby permission

Ah, 'Big' Dave . . .
In your usual form, I see. I thought I made it clear that Andy
Busby was not interested in any money. He just wants to write a foreword to
his fathers book and see it back in print. If I failed to make that point,
let me do so, now.As far as I am aware, neither Andy nor his sister are
likely to be requiring any funds from you, or me, or anyone else, in the
near future.
My <concern over the Busby family welfare > is not an accurate
description of the situation. My sole interest in this matter is that Frank
Busby and I were close friends for over thirty years and I believe that he
would expect me to look out for his family's interests in any way that I
could - I would expect that much from him if I had bought it and he was
alive. Looking out for the interests has no financial connotation.

          As far as <name dropping> I don't know what you're talking about.
I mentioned Frank, Andy, and Jim Joiner.
If you think Jim Joiner is 'name dropping' I'm sure he would be delighted
to know that you hold him in such high regard! Jim used to run a diving
school that myself and a few other divers started in 1968. He ran it for
close to twenty years and then retired from Oceaneering to operate Best
Publishing full time. I wasn't aware that he was working with Frank Busby
to do the reprint - but I wasn't surprised when I learned of it . . .Best
publishes a large number of technical dive books. More than any other
single publisher, I believe. If Best puts the book back on the market, they
will do so at a profit, capitalist pigs that they are . . .the Busby estate
will receive some percentage of that profit - not very much, I wouldn't
think, but something.
With regard to me acquiring any ' rights' . . .honestly, Dave, give
your head a shake!
I suppose that I should be offended at your incredible
over-the-top, foaming from all orifices, wild-eyed, raging responses to
fairly civilized posts - but the very trembling indignation is kinda
humorous, I must admit !
Finally, there is nothing to stop you or anyone else from making
all the copies of 'Manned submersibles' that you want, whether or not it is
also published by Best. Just clear the illustration copyrights and away you
go . . .
