Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] life support method?
I should probably explain my idea a little better. I imagined the CO2 and barometric
pressure sensors to only be for informational purposes- to give the operator a little
more information that just O2 and not be used for O2 control. I assumed the scrubber
fan would always be on; it would be part of the air circulation within the sub. I also
assumed that there would be either a) redundant O2 sensors, which would be averaged or
both monitored for out of range errors or b) completely redundant systems.
I agree- simpler is usually better- I just don't want to get caught up doing something
and forget about the O2 addition (I don't know what I'd be doing- the only sub trips I
ever take is in my sub in my head :). If designed correctly, an automatic O2
compensator would be easy and efficient to operate, as well as robust. More of a
system that simply requires less input from the operator, and gives stats on current
conditions (O2, CO2, air pressure, temp, etc), and let the operator decide the best
course of action.
