Karl, yes, this can be done using a die flange and internal gas pressure. I 
was going to use this on my sub for streamlined effects as well, and to 
provide a better internal latching mechanism. I was going to use wood and 
aluminum for the die flange. It's hard to describe but easy to draw. This is 
very simplistic:
