Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] RECOVERY TEAM TO TEST BOOSTER RETRIEVAL BY SUBMARINE DURINGSTS-101 MISSION

Hi, Allan:
Darn, don't tell NASA about the para-wing recovery . . .we need the
work!! Seriously, the major reason that 'land landings' aren't practical
is a matter of potential liability, rather than technology. If the guidance
system was damaged during seperation, for example, and the whole mess came
down on some lawyer's outdoor wedding . . .well, you get the picture! In
the case of a wet landing, it is only neccesary to post a 'notice to
mariners; and unca' Sam be off de hook! FYI, we did a bunch of practise
runs a couple of weeks ago - installing the dewatering/floatation assembly
into a test rocket nozzle and cuting the parachute webbing, etc. Went 100%.
Our crew left this AM for the Cape. Launch scheduled for 18th . . .cross
fingers!!
