Speaking of the British, do they ever build psubs? I see a lot of Americans
and Germans, but the rest of the world appears under-represented.
Hey, don't forget us guys up in Western Canada, (is that the 51st State?) -
Henk Pronk in Farimont Hot Springs, B.C. and Dale Heinzig in Red Deer,
Alberta, and me, Duncan Milne in North Vancouver, B.C., just 1/2 mile (OK,
0.83 kilometers) from Phil Nuytten's Nuytco Research! I've been lurking on
here for the past year, but now it's time to come out of the closet. It's a
2 man 500 FSW design based partly on the K350L, (I purchased the plans from
George Kittredge in 1994), and partly on Phil's Sea Urchin sub, which I have
piloted. The hull is 9 feet long, 30 inch diameter and the two conning
towers are 20 inch diameter, everything of 5/16 inch Type 316L stainless
steel. Like the Sea Urchin it will have 2 acrylic domes, one in the bow and
one on the forward tower. Plasma cutting, (flanges were water-jet cut) was
done last month, the S.S. ring stiffeners are going to be rolled tomorrow,
and welding starts this weekend.
I'll post some pictures in the next month or so. Sure my credit card is
almost maxed out right now, but as the Nike ad says, "Just do it!"
Give me a call at 604-984-4498 if any of you guys are heading up this way,
eh!
