I assume so.  Not much was said about it really.  It only played a small role.  Though in another section of the book a submarine sinks and comes to rest on the bottom sticking up vertically, which is pretty much the same as what happened in the latest Bond movie, The World is Not Enough.  Now I see this new U-Boat film coming out that centers around capturing the Enigma.
