The intimidation factor is the first hurdle in a project like this. As Dale 
says, building it yourself is mighty satisfying. I am lucky enough to have 
not one but several professional welders in my circle of acquaintances. Some 
of them are competent at sticking material together. Others are artists. The 
thing to remember is that both extremes are capable of doing the kind of 
journeyman grunt work needed for our kind of welding. Best to practice a good 
long while on material that didn't cost you a thousand bucks on the truck, 
but it ain't magic--even though there are some magicians doing it.
