Maybe Phil will chime in here. He was a boss at Hyco and might know. I was talking about the use of fiberglas over bare metal, of course, and had not considered resin over paint over metal. The no paint deal was a requirement by ABS not to COVER the clear resin, and the cloth was to toughen the whole thing up. I don't know what would happen without the cloth. Probably nothing in low impact areas. And I hate to speculate about resin OVER paint. The Do Not Paint thing was an ABS demand. If you paint it, you can't see it. In your case, it's already painted and you are trying to encapsulate the paint and protect it. I've never seen it tried, so don't have even a SWAG for you.Sorry
