I have mentioned a 1996 article by a guy who built a full-scale turtle back 
in 1977.  His turtle was not round.  It looked like a barrel from the side, 
but more like a banana from the front.  He describes it as about seven feet 
"long" but only four feet "wide".  That is why Bushnell called it the 
turtle...because it looked like two turtle shells strapped together.  The 
pilot thought it looked like a "huge clam".  It displaced between 4,000 and 
4,500 pounds.  Hope this helps.
