This is a one-of-a-kind, historic, original submarine designed and built by
George Kittredge, the father of small personal submarines, in 1979.
It was certified by Lloyd's registry and pressure tested at U.S. Navy
Anapolis to 380psi or 850 feet depth, and rated for a maximum
operating depth of 600 feet. It is designed for two occupants, an
observer lying prone and viewing out of the front viewport and a pilot
sitting in the conning tower.
The pressure hull is 8 feet in length including the tank heads (end-caps),
and 3 feet in diameter.
Overall length including the fore and aft ballast tanks is approximately
12 feet. The submarine is powered
electrically via external battery pods located on the bottom. The
orignal configuration as shown in these photos used two 1/2 hp motors as
forward thrusters (mid-ship port and starboard) and one 3 hp motor at the
stern. All three motors work but will need new seals for the 1ATM
housings if you choose to keep this configuration.
The submarine is in very good condition and sits stripped for
rebuild and refitting. All work performed so far has been documented
at
SUBDB.INFO/AQUATIC with photos and text. The trailer has been
upgraded with new 3500# tandem axles, new 15 inch wheels and tires, and
new hydraulic brakes (rotors, calipers, pads) on all four wheels.
A new Titan hydraulic hitch (7000# capacity) has not been installed but
is included. Also included are four new minn-kota 101# thrust
motor heads and two Roboteq motor controllers (controls 4 motors).
Remaining work to bring vessel back to diving condition includes:
- Sandblasting and repainting
- Electrical penetrator replacement
- Light replacement
- Reaming (machining) of fwd-port thruster thru-hull
- O-rings on all penetrations
- Viewports
- Other customizations you may require
This is an opportunity to start your project with a certified pressure
hull designed and built by George Kittredge himself. You can
bring it back to the original configuration or customize it as you need
to fit your requirements. The pressure hull is in very good
condition and other than needing some modernization and replacement of
some 32 year old parts (o-rings, penetrators, viewports), will be
good-to-go.
